The morning sun filled the room through the glass ceiling. Alissa woke slowly from her slumber. She felt Zane’s body still pressed against her, precisely in the last place she remembered him being before she fell asleep. Alissa scanned the room to see a handful of candles still burning, refusing to extinguish in the morning sun

“Good morning,” Zane said while running the back of his hand down her cheek.

Alissa turned her head to look at her companion and immediately laughed.

“What’s so funny?” Zane asked with a grin on his face.

“That tie!” she exclaimed, tickled that it was still dangling loosely around his neck.

Zane grinned but didn’t offer a reply as he rose from the bed and pulled on some denim jeans that were laying across the back of a nearby chair.

“Can I take it off now?”

“Yes,” Alissa said as she continued to laugh, tickled that he obeyed her request throughout the entire night.

Alissa’s laughter faded as the reality hit her that the adventure was ending.

“I suppose I should get going,” she said with a slightly sad voice.

“Whenever you are ready.”

Alissa rose from the bed and stretched her arms out above her head before grabbing a cotton robe sitting next to her side of the bed. Dread came over her as she realized that fantasy was about to turn to reality after she left Zane’s presence.

She closed the robe around her naked body and knotted the cotton belt tightly.

“I’m ready,” she said while approaching Zane at the foot of the bed.

Zane leaned in and kissed her gently on her trembling lips. Her body was tense with anxiety as he wrapped his arms around her.

“It’s going to be OK. I promise,” he said before breaking the hug and locking his eyes on hers.

Alissa looked one final time into his warm eyes, challenging herself to distinguish truth from lies, swearing that she would never confuse the two again. In Zane’s eyes, she only found kindness and warmth, and felt comfort in his reassurances that everything was going to be OK.

Zane walked her to the entry door of the room. He opened the door while rubbing his hand across her back, offering a comforting touch to a woman returning to a broken life.

Rachel stood outside the door, dressed in a floral sundress and flats. She took Alissa’s hand and nodded to Zane as the door closed behind them. Rachel squeezed Alissa’s hand gently as she noticed her shoulders slump forward at the sound of the closing door.

“You can get dressed…but there’s no rush,” Rachel said as she opened the door to large changing room.

As her emotions took over, Alissa gave Rachel a long embrace.

“Thank you,” Alissa said while her head rested on Rachel’s shoulder, “Thank you for everything.”

Rachel pulled back from Alissa with a wicked smile on her face.

“You haven’t figured it out yet, have you?”

Alissa was taken aback by the question. What part of the adventure had she missed?

“Figured what out?” Alissa asked, mad at herself for missing something that must have been obvious to other guests.
